History and mission

The Maywand Foundation was founded in 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, with the purpose to improve access to life-saving healthcare and food banks for millions of underprivileged children, women and men in Afghanistan. Our specific focus is to implement integrated health and nutrition services, in particular a nationwide vaccination program against polio in all the 34provinces of the country.

Our mission is to provide high immunisation coverage to all vulnerable under 5s, in an effort to eradicate the deadly virus that still plagues Afghanistan, one of its last remaining strongholds, while working to improve the life of underprivileged communities by providing them with food donations. Our efforts could potentially mark an unprecedented global triumph against polio.

The Maywand Foundation’s healthcare mission is part of a new and rigorous initiative to help Afghanistan rise out of poverty and disease. We want to see the country modernise and develop, as we bring down the decade-old barriers between urban and rural Afghanistan.

Our battle against polio and infant mortality requires a holistic approach in order to bear fruit. It is aligned with our wider efforts to empower communities, invest in agriculture, provide nutrition plans and promote education on our journey to rebuild our country.
